Frequently asked Questions and Answers
|
Q. When and where are auditions?
A: Auditions are held every September on the Tuesday and Wednesday following Labor Day from 6-8pm. They are held at American Heritage of South Jordan (11100 South Redwood Road).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. When and where are rehearsals?
A. Our rehearsals are held at American Heritage of South Jordan. We rehearse on Mondays from 4:00-5:00pm. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Who can audition?
A: Any child between the ages of 7 and 14 years old. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Do we need to live in Riverton to be a member of the choir?
A: No. We have members from Bluffdale, West Jordan, South Jordan, Murray, Sandy, and Draper. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Is there a cost associated with becoming a member, and if so, what does it cover?
A: The cost is $60.00 / year for music rental and this also includes a winter and spring CD. Also required is a purchase of a Children's Choir robe (new or used). New robes run about $45.00 and used robes are $35.00. You may keep this robe or sell it when your child needs a new size, or will not be returning to the choir. Parents wishing to sell a robe may bring the used robe to auditions in September, or bring the robe to our first rehearsal. Please attach a self-addressed stamped envelope to the robe and RCC will try to sell it for you. Parents needing a different size should follow the same procedure. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Are there any make-up days for auditions?
A: Generally, no. However, feel free to contact usthrough this website and explain your situation.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: What musical experience is required?
A: None. If a child has an ear for music and a love for singing, he/she can become a member. As our space is limited, preference is given to more experienced children.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. How many children sing in the Concert Choir?
A. Ninety five.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. What is the audition like, and how should I prepare?
A. Children should come prepared to sing a favorite song, and an accompanist is provided. Church, folk, and theatre music is appropriate. We test the child's ability to sing harmony so that the child is assigned to the appropriate section.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. Do you have a waiting list?
A. No. Because of our limited space, children who do not make the Concert Choir are invited to sing in our Preparatory Choir. This choir meets the same day, same building, from 4:00-5:00pm. Children in the Prep Choir buy a robe and have separate performing opportunities.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. How often do the choirs perform?
A. The choirs perform about three times each year.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. How often does the Concert Choir record a CD?
A. Twice a year. At the end of each semester, we hire a professional and produce a CD. The CD is included with your registration fee, and additional CDs sell for $10.00. The CD includes the names of all members of the Concert Choir.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. Is this the greatest choir to be in or what?
A. YES! We work hard and have a great time. The children are proud of their accomplishments. What better way could you spend a Monday afternoon?
